Pollard Evangelical Church opened as the London Road Mission Hall in August 1891, and has been in continuous existence as a place of worship in the same building ever since.
Charles Pollard, a local auctioneer and county councillor, gave the land, paid for the building, and established a board of individual trustees to manage it. After Pollard’s death, the Mission Hall was re-named Pollard Memorial Church, but in more recent years it has been known as Pollard Evangelical Church.
In its governing documents, the church is defined as an independent Baptist cause. It has its own basis of faith, but it also a confessional church and adheres to the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith.
At present, the church has a regular Sunday morning congregation of about 40-50 people. In addition to the morning service, there is also an evening service on the first Sunday of each month, and a prayer meeting every Thursday evening at 7.30pm.
Other church activities include a coffee morning on the first Saturday morning of each month (10.30am-12.30pm) and a discussion Bible study on the third Saturday morning (10.30am-12.00 noon), and a women’s study group on the second Friday of every month (7:30pm – 9:00pm).
On most Fridays, a street outreach takes place (11.30am-2.00pm) in Gold Street, Kettering, led by Paul Linnell, of The Open Air Mission, with support from the church.
