Safety in Sovereignty

The average man knows nothing about what will happen in the course of the year just begun. It is a closed book to the whole human race.

However, those who know that God is sovereign in all the affairs of men are in a privileged position. They know that God is in control of everything. Nothing can happen without His permission.  This takes the anxiety out of everything we might otherwise fear.

No wonder that the Scriptures urge us to be anxious for nothing (Philippians 4:6). We can rest in the assurance that God knows everything, and will accomplish His divine purpose in everything that occurs in 2025. To put it at its simplest, we await events. We need to pray for the peace that accepts God’s will, whatever that turns out to be.  No doubt we can imagine all kinds of unwelcome possibilities. Far better to recognise that God knows best and will provide for the future in the way He wants. The way He establishes for His children will always be a good way, and He will work out His purposes through it.

This world is full of sin, whether perpetrated by individuals or nations, and we can become the victims of evils at any time.  We need to be sheltered by God’s protection in all our circumstances. He is our only safe refuge.

However, we are not forever only sheltering. When we are undertaking the will of God and contributing positively to life in this world, we are very visible, and an example to those around us.  We can undertake our duties without fear, knowing that God is with us and He will intervene to meet every need that arises.

We need to pray for all the evident needs of the world, as this will help us to speak comfortingly to other people. They will be reassured by our confidence in the Almighty and Eternal God.     

This world is safe in God’s hands, as He made it and controls it.  May we trust Him completely and let Him guide us in all our ways.
