Precision Timing – June 2024
Precision Timing
In June, the country is marking the 80th anniversary of the Normandy Landings, which took place on 6 June and were a turning-point in World War II. Code-named Operation Overlord, and colloquially known as D-Day, the successful landings led to the liberation of France and the march to Berlin and victory.
The whole story of D-Day is told in an exhibition at Newhaven Fort, a military base hidden away in the South Downs above the port of Newhaven. One of the vital elements in the successful operation was precision timing. The weather had to be right, and the wind speed, and the tide measurements, to assist the naval and airborne forces involved in the invasion. Everything came right on the day, and the weather was calm enough for the period of several hours required. The 150,000 seaborne troops involved in the landings were able to reach the five designated beaches on the French Coast – Gold, Sword, Omaha, Utah and Juno – and begin the invasion, with all their military equipment and provisions. Undoubtedly, this was an instance of the providence of God on behalf of the United Kingdom.
God’s precision timing is evident in other ways as well. In the Bible, in Galatians 4:4, we read: But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
In other words, God planned to send His Son at a precise time to save all those who repent and believe the gospel. The coming of Jesus had long been prophesied, but eventually, after centuries of waiting, in God’s perfect timing, He came.
Later, through the Apostle Paul, he tells the people associated with the church at Corinth: Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation [2 Corinthians 6:2].
This is still the case. For everyone, the time for salvation is now. However, there will come a time – we don’t know when – when that opportunity will no longer be available to us. We must all ask God to save us now, through His Son Jesus Christ. God will lovingly respond to all who call upon Him
